‘Umar ibn al-Khattab (رضي الله عنه) used to say: “Jareer is the Yoosuf (Joseph) of this Ummah (Muslim nation).”
He bravely came forward when the Messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) had just said in a sermon: “One to whom good fortune and prosperity belongs will boldly come forward from the road between the two mountains. On his face is the mark of a King.”
Safiyyah bint Huyayy ibn Akhtab (رضي الله عنها) was a descendant of Prophet Haroon (عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ), and this is why the Messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه و سلم) consoled her by saying that she was the daughter of a Prophet (referring to Prophet Haroon (عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ)). And in this context only the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said that her Uncle was a Prophet (referring to Prophet Musa (عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ)).
Imam Ahmad also said, after it was said to him: What do you say about what happened between ‘Ali and Mu‘aawiyah (May Allaah be pleased with them)? He said: I do not say anything about them except what is best.
The hearts and tongues of Ahl-ul-Sunnah wal-Jama’ah are free of any hatred towards the Sahabah.
Anyone cursing a Sahabi (Companion) of the Prophet (peace be upon him), whether Mu’awiyah or another (may Allah be pleased with them), deserves a severe punishment.
