Response by Shaikh Shuraim Denouncing Hamza Kashgari
On the occasion of Mawlid on February 4, 2012 Hamza Kashgari Mohammad Najeeb , a Saudi poet and a former columnist for the Saudi daily newspaper al-Bilad, published three disrespecting tweets about an imagined meeting with Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam).
On February 8, The General Presidency of Scholarly Research and Ifta, headed by Saudi Grand Mufti Abdul-Azeez ibn Abdullaah Aal ash-Shaikh, issued a statement calling for Kashgari to be tried.
Sheikh Saleh bin Fowzan Al Fowzan, a member of the 7-man supreme committee of scholars in Saudi Arabia, said it has been established in Islam that any one who insults God or the Prophet should be killed.
“Repenting will not work…any man who insults God or our Prophet (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) should be killed,”
“But we should first verify that this man (Hamza Kashgari) did insult Prophet Mohammed in his article on Twitter…if verified, then he must be killed……many scholars and people are now demanding his execution.” he said, quoted by Saudi newspapers.
“On your birthday, I will say that I have loved the rebel in you, that you’ve always been a source of inspiration to me, and that I do not like the halos of divinity around you. I shall not pray for you,” he wrote in one tweet.
“On your birthday, I find you wherever I turn. I will say that I have loved aspects of you, hated others, and could not understand many more,” he wrote in a second.
“On your birthday, I shall not bow to you. I shall not kiss your hand. Rather, I shall shake it as equals do, and smile at you as you smile at me. I shall speak to you as a friend, no more,” he concluded in a third.
The Imam of the Haram in Mecca, Shaikh Saud Ash-Shuraim responded to the issue by a poetry denouncing Kashgari. Below is the video of the poetry in English Translation. Also in this video, a commentary by Shaikh (Dr.) Abdullah al-Farsi (hafidhahullah) on the extremely serious matter of mocking or jesting about Allah, His Messenger or anything from the religion of Allah. On the wickedness of Kashgari’s words and the prescribed punishment in Islam for the one who mocks or disrespects the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasllam).

Text of the Poetry
O Kashgari, what was hidden (within you,) you have revealed,
And in the Rabb, who created you, you have disbelieved.
You have exited the Deen of Allah as dispraised,
By a statement whispered to you by the disgraced (the Rajeem – i.e., Shaytan)
The personality of Prophet Muhammad, you have vilified.
and (by this,) O brother of Rajeem (i.e., Shaytan), a grave for yourself you have prepared.
O wicked Kashgari, the outcome of misguidance,
Woe be to him, who insinuated you with despicableness.
You have reviled Muhammad (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam), O indecent one,
Woe be to him, who protects you or supports you even!
O evil Kashgari, O infidel who all bounds has crossed,
May Allah annihilate your tongue which mocked.
Do you think you are a cultured person,
And this caused you to hurl this treason
A fool with a plagued thought, and nothing more are you,
How miserable, how wretched are you!
We do not see you today except as an immoral,
Disobedient and rebellious liar.
You have hurt us, and dishonored Ahmed’s sanctity (sallallahu alaihi wasallam),
Woe be to those who extend to you their sympathy.
Verily, I detest you, and I detest your lies,
And I will detest all of your allies.
This is what we get from a faction,
Which supports every rebellion.
They classify the one, who curses the ruler, as a hypocrite,
But the one who curses the Chosen One, they say it’s freedom and hence permit.
In us there is no good,
and we are doomed, if taken away is our jealousy (for the Prophet)
O my nation, stand up to defend the Prophet,
Come on, poison we eliminate, and thorns we uproot.
We are witnessing a time of test,
Who will shed tears, and who will pretend to have sorrow?
If there do not arise from us supporters of Muhammad (sallallahu alahi wa-sallam),
Destruction we will face tomorrow.
O Rabb, honor us with (the ability to) defend Ahmed (i.e., Prophet Muhammad sallahu alaihi wa-sallam),
and the caller who sought to cross the bounds, O Allah, him You overthrow.
Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him) wrote a valuable book on this matter of insulting the Prophet (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam), entitled al-Saarim al-Maslool ‘ala Shaatim al-Rasool which every believer should read, especially in these times when a lot of hypocrites and heretics dare to insult the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) because they see that the Muslims are careless and feel little protective jealousy towards their religion and their Prophet, and they do not implement the shar’i punishment which would deter these people and their ilk from committing this act of blatant kufr.
And Allaah knows best. May Allaah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad and all his family and companions
