Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) – The Best PR

By – Sister Maria Kibtia

In my last semester, I had a subject named Public Relations, abbreviated as PR….. one of the hottest job options in media diligence today. Today PR is not only the most “glamorous” job among youth but also a job of high dignity. While learning about the characteristics needed to be PR professionals, I got across many beautiful attributes and just couldn’t stop myself from concluding that Prophet Muhammad (sallallaahu alayhi wa’sallam) was the best PR!

For all those who have heard this term “PR” for the first time….let me elaborate for a better understanding of the subject.

The main goal of a public relations department is to enhance a company’s reputation and be able to present the company or individual to the world in the best light possible! It acts as a reputation protector. The world is full of competitions and each company needs to have an edge that makes them stand out from the crowd. This is the era where the man who shouts the loudest is the one who is actually heard! You need to be bold, have a unique marketing strategy, USP, specific target audience and of course different from your competitors!

Public Relations provide a service for the company by helping to give the public and the media a better understanding of how the company works. It also gives a feedback of how the public has perceived of the company. It connects the media, the company and the public.

In today’s scenario, we see various film stars hire personal PRO’s (Public Relation Officers) who direct them what to wear for a particular event, what to speak on a particular occasion, what gestures to flaunt for different situations and where to appear for the perfect limelight!

Prophet Muhammad (sallallaahu alayhi wa’sallam) is known to have used all the available forms of media to market the most beautiful religion of Islam. He is the best PR officer to have ever walked on the face of earth and he will always be!

The most important characteristics required to be a successful PR Officer are the following:

• He should be able to make good judgments.
• Have strong written and verbal skills.
• Have strong negotiation skills.
• Good listening skills.
• Exude personal confidence.
• Could be able to work well under pressure.
• Have the ability to embrace diversity and be sensitive to it.
• Have a life-long commitment.
• Have faith in the company/client you are working for.
• Be truthful.
• Be close to your audience and understand their wants.
• Should have good time-management skills.
• Should be expert in multi-tasking.

We see all these qualities and many more overwhelming most beautiful qualities which has not found a match till now!

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was the one who was the most just (among the creations).

The Prophet was careful in taking all measures to avoid dispute, anger, or other negative feelings between him and others. In fact, the essence of the Quranic view was: “Here is a Prophet living in your midst exemplifying the truth of all the earlier scriptures. This book and this Prophet came to confirm the truth of all the revelations before them or the truth of all revealed religions.”

The Prophet had the most pleasing characteristics, very kind and was very understanding.

His concerns for his people were awe-inspiring -

Anas b. Malik reported the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) having said: When I begin the prayer I Intend to make it long, but I hear a boy crying; I then shorten it because of his mother’s feelings. [Sahih Muslim :: Book 4 : Hadith 952]

He always spoke the truth no matter what-

Hadrat ‘Amribn al-Aas (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Holy Prophet (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) in his special talk, used to pay attention even to the worst man in the community with a view to win his heart. “Towards me also,” states Hadrat ‘Amr (may Allah be pleased with him), “he used to pay much attention, addressing me more than he did others, wherefore I began to think that I was the best man in the community. So under this impression, one day I asked him: “Am I superior or Hadrat Umar?” He said, ‘Umar’. Again I asked him clearly, he told me correctly, without fear or favour, and later on I thought I should not have asked him such things.” (Tirmidhi)

Every companion used to think that Prophet Muhammad (May Peace & blessings of Allah be upon him) gave more preference to him. One used to say, Prophet (peace be upon him) loves me the most while the others also had the same opinion.

He had the best manners –

Hadrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “The Holy Prophet (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) had the best manners among all the human beings” (Bukhari and Muslim).

His trust in Allah was mesmerizing -

It has been narrated on the authority of Hadrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that, on the Day of Hunain, Umm Sulaim took out a dagger she had in her possession. Hadrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) saw her and said: Messenger of Allah, this is Umm Sulaim. She is holding a dagger. Allah’s Messenger (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) asked (her): What for are you holding that dagger? She said: I took it up so that I may tear open the belly of a polytheist who comes near me. Allah’s Messenger (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) began to smile (at those words). She said: Messenger of Allah, kill all those people-other than us- whom thou hast declared to be free (on the day of the Conquest of Makka). (They embraced Islam because) they were defeated at your hands (and as such their Islam is not dependable). Allah’s Messenger (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) said: Umm Sulaim, Allah is sufficient (against the mischief of the polytheists) and He will be kind to us (so you need not carry this dagger). [Saheeh Muslim :: Book 19 : Hadith 4453]

Despite being unlettered, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) spoke on every issue and has not been contradicted ever since. No one in human history has ever been able to combine in himself all of the virtues and good qualities as perfectly as him. He was flawlessly balanced in his virtues and good moral qualities….and why wouldn’t he be, after all, his teacher was the Almighty Allah and therefore his achievements are unparallel in history.

Whatever he did and whatever he said did not concern only his own time but he addressed all times and places and all peoples and levels throughout the world to come until the Last Day…. SUBHAN’ALLAH who except him is eligible to be the best PR!!!

Michael H. Hart rightly said in his book “The 100, a Ranking of the Most Influential Persons in History”, after giving Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) rank one:

“My choice of Muhammad to lead the list of the world’s most influential persons may surprise some readers and may be questioned by others, but he was the only man in history who was supremely successful on both the religious and secular levels. Of humble origins, Muhammad founded and promulgated one of the world’s great religions, and became an immensely effective political leader. Today, thirteen centuries after his death, his influence is still powerful and pervasive.”

The Glorious Quran says: “Indeed in the Messenger of Allah (Muhammad, peace be upon him) you have a good example to follow…” [Qur’an 33:21]
